When setting text to music, it is incredibly fulfilling to have an opportunity to work with a living writer, and especially a great writer such as Mark Campbell, one of America's most celebrated librettists, who I had the pleasure of working with on an opera in seven scenes entitled The Whole Truth. This song, Crossing The Hudson, is about two New Yorkers whose paths connect on Staten Island ferries going in different directions at different times of the day. Crossing The Hudson was commissioned by the Five Boroughs Music Festival for the Five Borough Songbook, Volume II.
