Frequently Asked Questions
Robert Paterson
Can you mail, email, or sell me sheet music for your pieces?
I don't handle sheet music sales or rentals. For sheet music sales or rentals, please contact my publisher, Bill Holab Music, through their site or via email.
Do you have online PDF perusal scores or MP3s that you can email me?
All my published works are available as free online perusal scores via Issuu. The individual links for each perusal score may also be accessed on my site's individual work pages. Perusal score PDFs are also available from my publisher, Bill Holab Music. They may be requested on the Perusal Materials page on the Bill Holab Music site. Audio and video recordings can be found on individual works pages and sites like Spotify or SoundCloud.
I've already rented the physical materials from your publisher, but I'd like to email them to my players since they read from tablets. Can you email me PDFs?
I don't handle materials (score and parts) sales or rentals or determine whether PDF parts are available for materials. Please reach out to my publisher, Bill Holab Music. They can be reached at the Bill Holab Music site or via email.
I'm in a rush. I'm worried your publisher won't get me the printed materials on time. Can you email me the materials or send them to me yourself?
Bill Holab Music typically sends out materials within a matter of days from the initial date of the request. If you are in a rush, please get in touch with Bill Holab Music on their site or via email and mention your situation, and they will do their best to get you the materials as quickly as possible.
I live overseas or in Canada or Mexico, not the United States. Shipping rates are costly. Can you email me PDFs?
Oftentimes, if materials are ordered ahead of time, shipping rates can be kept to a minimum. I don't handle score or part sales or rentals, including digital scores and parts, or determine whether my materials are available digitally or not. You have to talk to my publishing agent, Bill Holab Music. They can be reached at the Bill Holab Music site or via email.
I want to record one or more of your pieces for professional release. Do I need to pay you, or do I need your permission?
You need my permission to record my work if itβs a world-premiere professional recording, meaning CDs will be manufactured or released on digital streaming or download platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, Tidal, etc. Please get in touch with me directly to discuss the details. Also, sometimes ensembles have a first right of refusal for making the first professional recording if they commissioned the work, so recent pieces sometimes have a waiting period before they can be recorded professionally.
For all recordings in the U.S. or worldwide, before recording my music for professional release, you must pay a mechanical license fee via SongFile for recordings and reproduction of music streams, CDs, ringtones, lyrics, and digital downloads. SoungFile is a division of the Harry Fox Agency.
I want to license one or more of your works for a dramatic production. How do I do that?
Bill Holab Music handles my grand/dramatic rights for operas and other theatrical works and the use of my music for dance productions. They can be reached on the Bill Holab Music site or via email.
